CCSS-aligned SAI Tutoring Subject Areas

  • Common Core Mathematics

Inclusive math programs are designed for families who want to raise the bar, not lower the bar, of math instruction and practice for their students in grades K-12 to ensure college and career readiness. Ms. Ellen makes abstract grade-level math concepts concrete and accessible for all students. Math lessons are taught using grade-level Common Core State Standards math curricula. Families can book 1:1 or small group appointments if peers want to share tutoring costs.

  • Academic Writing about Reading

Academic Writing is the highest level of language development and expression and for many students, the sheer load of reading and writing assignments becomes overwhelming starting in upper elementary school and 6th grade. Ms. Ellen teaches a range of assistive tech tools that help students keep up with typical peers. These 1:1 tutoring sessions also help each student develop at their own pace the stages of academic research and academic writing necessary for success in college.

  • Task Completion

Starting in upper elementary school, students start receiving complex academic assignments that may take a month or longer to complete. Task Completion supports executive function development and reduces overwhelm and procrastination. Families can book 1:1 or small group appointments if peers want to share tutoring costs. For highly complex projects, 1:1 tutoring is ideal but small group option is also available for students who are working on the same long-term assignment.

  • Academic Emergency

Overwhelmed by fast approaching deadlines? Suddenly realize that your science fair project, essay assignment or term paper is due and you haven’t started? In a crisis, Ms. Ellen will help you calmly get through it. To avoid academic emergencies, book long-term Task Completion tutoring to learn how to plan and complete large academic projects step-by-step.

  • Family Mindfulness Training

For families who want to learn mindfulness at their own pace, these lessons are based on a set of skills that parents and children can learn and practice together. You will find that this quiet (fun!) time together creates a therapeutic space in your home that you can return to as often as you wish. I do not limit the number of participants and welcome multi-generational family participation.

  • Social Skills Development

Social success is critical for a sense of self-worth and well-being. It requires a complex set of skills including effective communication, social thinking, prosocial behavior and attention skills. Ms. Ellen screens each student and develops a unique academic individual program based on ongoing, ever-evolving social goals. Rather than grouping students together randomly based on a very large eligibility category (eg: ASD), Ms. Ellen first identifies academic needs and levels re: social development and works on individual needs as well as small-group and large-group needs. Families can book 1:1 or small group appointments (in-person, remote or hybrid). An effort is made to match students based on temperament and interests as well as academic needs.

1:1 Tutoring or Price-Sharing Option

1:1 Tutoring costs $100/hour if remote and $150/hour in-person. A price-sharing option reduces the cost of services via a small group format. Ms. Ellen can create separate billing for each family who chooses to share payment for a tutoring series (remote or in-person). One exception: Writing is always taught in a 1:1 hour-long format.
